The Schools of Choice program gives families the flexibility to choose schools outside their designated attendance boundaries within the Ann Arbor Public Schools district. This program is designed to help parents select a school that best fits their child’s needs, whether they’re looking for specialized instruction, unique academic programs, or engaging extracurricular options. With Schools of Choice, families have more opportunities to find the right environment that encourages both academic and personal growth.

The Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education allows a limited number of seats for non-resident students under Michigan’s School Aid Act (Sections 105 and 105C). Each spring, applications are accepted from students in eligible districts, including Washtenaw, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne Counties. Available seats vary each year, depending on school capacity and enrollment projections.

Non-resident students from Washtenaw, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties may apply for limited seats in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Eligible Districts

Available seats are determined annually based on capacity. Applications open each spring, with a limited number of seats for non-resident students.

Number of Transfers

Transportation is not provided by Ann Arbor Public Schools. Parents or guardians are responsible for getting students to and from school.
